Crossing the border....

to Niagara Falls, Canada

07/02/06

Finally the day has arrived to witness one of the wonders of the modern world - The Niagara Falls.

And this turned out to be a trip with family - my brother, his better half and kids :)

it was a 400 mile drive from our place. me not being a permanent resident of the United States, i got hold of a visitor visa to canadian republic. our plan was to drive straight through the border, get into canada and see the great falls from canadian which is supposed to have a better view than the american side. and so did we.

Crossing the border to Canada

Horse Shoe Falls, Canada

the two main falls at niagara are american falls and horse shoe falls. the one seen from american side is the american falls. if u need to see the horse shoe falls(the bigger and majestic one) u need to go for the boat ride (available on both US and canada side) or get into canada. u cannot see the horse shoe falls by standing in US side. both these can be seen from canada side.

and people generalise both these falls as niagara falls :)

Boad Ride to the falls - Maid of the Mist

Maid of the Mist - Operating from the canadian and ameeican side

The American Falls - view from canada

Skylon Tower, Canada

Niagara River, Rainbow bridge (connecting USA and Canada)

Horse Shoe falls - Illuminated at night

and the highlight of the trip being the boat ride to the falls - the feeling u experience when the strong mist splashes into your face can never be put into words... Just experience it.

Six Flags

05/27/06

First long weekend at US is here... after lots of 'peer group' discussions we decided on visiting nearby places rather than a long trip. Our friends were coming down from Boston, Chicago and Maine.

This day was set aside for Six Flags adventure park. This was a great experience for me as i've visited theme parks only couple of time before in india. The rides were real thrillers and chillers :)

Superman - the ultimade ride

The Great American Scream Machine

We also visited the animal safari which is also a part of the park. Though it wasn't that great it is good enough to pay one visit.

and by the end of the day we were all totally drained out of energy but with high spirits of having a wonderful day. Looking forward to visit the place again soon and get into those rides which we couldnt this time.

Penn's Landing

Went for local sight seeing in philly city during the weekend. Just drove across the philly city streets along with my cousin.
here are few snaps....
The area today known as Penn's Landing (http://www.ushistory.org/tour/tour_landing.htm) stretches along the Delaware and encompasses the spot where William Penn, Philadelphia's founder, first touched ground in his "greene country towne." After Penn's arrival, this area quickly became the center of Philly's maritime soul and the city's dominant commercial district.
And the Benjamin Franklin bridge seen in the above pic is one of the few bridges which connects PA and NJ. The place where I’m standing is PA (Pennsylvania) and the other side is NJ (New Jersey).
more snaps...
Another major development at my side is that I gave the knowledge test for learner’s permit and now I’m legally authorized to learn driving in US roads :) Infact I have already started driving in the streets on a Volkswagen Jetta and this is the steering wheel i held for the first time outside India :))

Status Report for April' 06 ;)

It’s been quite some time since I jotted down out here. Every time I sat down to jot I got distracted with something or the other. And there are many draft ‘jots’ lying in my inbox. I hope at least this one makes it to the ‘world wide web’.

Well…though I was silent for sometime, many things happened around me… here is the recap :)

To start with…
I saw the first snowfall of my life couple of weeks back. No one had expected to snow that day but all of a sudden the temperatures went down and it snowed. And unfortunately I didn’t have a camera at that time. So couldn’t click any pics. neither could i play in the snow since i was in office at that time. :)

then…I visited Atlantic City. Its famous for casinos. Went there on a Saturday night with a cousin of mine. Burnt quite some $$ too at the casinos there. U know what? One of the casinos is called Taj Mahal :) and it is built in the model of Taj Mahal (Agra)

then…finally now I’m a proud owner of Canon Powershot A530. Bought it online from DELL website last week. I managed to find a deal @ $148 (inclusive of all taxes) at Deals2Buy. So u’ll soon find some pics shot with my ‘very own’ A530 :)

and also i'm into orkut community now. its really fantastic. great place to meet(new/old) friends. so what are you waiting for. ..

so as usual every time I finish jotting down, I (am) think(ing)/wish(ing) in my mind – “henceforth let me be more regular in blogging."

Cheers!

Warning: To all my new friends out there - i'm not a great writer and i just jot what i feel like and sometimes it may not make any sense to u. i hope it atleast makes to me :)

1 Week Old

Am a week old in United States. So far so good. Everything out here is different from what is back there in india. Culture, People, Life and u take anything it gonna be different in someway or the other.

What i did most this week is travelling. New York - New Jersey - Philly. Then daily commuting to Malvern (this is the place where my office is located). i travelled around 350 miles. not too bad right?;)
Roads are too good out here. Traffic is very much oraganized. People follow traffic rules. And that makes everything perfect and less chaotic. Another thing i noticed is that traffic signs makes a lot of sense (unless you do not know to read them). People are totally dependent on the traffic signs as you don't find people on roads to ask directions especially on highways. You if u want to go to a particular place...u get the driving direction from internet and drive down following the traffic signs.

Haven't started official work in full swing. so it was good this week. Also i havn't got my laptop yet. it seems that they have just placed an order for a new one. Hoping to get it by monday. Lets see. and from Monday onwards its gonna be a little different. Moving my with friends in a new apartment. (I was staying with my uncle in philly this week. its around 40 miles from my office). This is much nearer to the workplace. So travel is going to be less and that will allow me to spend more time at home :)

March 18, 2006

March 18, 2006

The much awaited day is finally here. Here i go... Trivandrum -> Dubai -> NewYork -> Philadelphia.

The Emirates was supposed to depart at 4.30am from Trivandrum and reach Dubai 7.05am local time. So all set and thrilled to fly. and too add to it i got an upgrade from the economy class to business class due to some overcrowding in economy class. and finally i took off from India...
The travel was pretty good. Also could catch quite some amount of sleep too.

And finally landed in New York at 2.30pm local. My cousins had come to pick me up from the airport and we drove to New Jersey. Spent some time with my relatives and then to Philadelphia.

So finally the day has come to an end which was pretty much eventful and thrilling.. travelling thro' various geographies and time zones.

And I hope to blog more frequently going forward. You may find a little delay intially coz i'm yet to receive my laptop. Here I Go...

Welcome (to) 2006…

Wish u all and ur family a very Happy New Year 2006!!!

Another year passed by… bringing us lots good things and of course we might also had some things to worry about which may not have gone the way we expected… anyway let us thank everyone and of course God who supported us and stood with us during the entire year and focus on the new year ahead.

New year also reminds me of new year ‘resolutions’… we all make resolutions every year and try out best to work it out… well, this time I didn’t make any new resolutions. But while I’m jotting this down, I too feel that I should have a resolution too… okay, here is what that came to my mind instantly “let me put my best in all the stuffs I do and I should convince myself before I take up any task”. I guess this will help me to be sincere to my work and meet or exceed all expectations from me.
Good Luck to u guys too!!

Once again wishing u all a very happy and prosperous new year! May all you dreams come true and God Bless U All !!
